He frequently works closely with, and serves as 'of counsel' to, the trial lawyers of Olson, Bzdok & Howard. Civil Litigation
Michael H. Dettmer serves clients in State and Federal trial and appellate courts in the Western District of Michigan. He accepts potential litigation clients and cases regarding public and private disputes in the areas of: civil and commercial litigation; professional malpractice; and serious personal and product injury.

Local Counsel
The goal of retaining local counsel is to save the client unnecessary expense of travel and to provide a comfort level to a non-resident lawyer and client. Mike serves as local counsel for attorneys and their clients litigating matters in Northern Michigan Courts. He knows the Northern Michigan County Circuit and Western District United States District Judges professionally. He offers assistance working with and through the court staff to help non-resident clients, law firms and lawyers efficiently navigate the local courts as your local representative. Mike is available to act as co-counsel in all facets of litigation, take or defend depositions, advise and counsel regarding local court rules procedures and will participate locally as appropriate.

Mediation
The goal of mediation is to to help lawyers and clients resolve disputes without the expense of litigation. Mike is a trained and Michigan Supreme Court-certified mediator, having completed and maintaining the court's certification program. He regularly mediate cases for various State courts in northern Michigan and/or on behalf of lawyers who request services in assisting them and their clients in resolving disputes. Mike is available to become involved either in an evaluative or facilitation method mediation.
